Grammar

  1. Misusing words
  2. Their they’re, don’t beat yourself up two much about it, just make sure its the last time, ok?

  3. Punctuation mistakes
  4. A comma, splice stands out like a sore thumb! Find them; and you can avoid the problem?

  5. Spelling mistakes
  6. And dew knot expect spell check her too catch all of them.

Research

  1. Not doing research
  2. A certain number of readers strongly appreciate strong, document facts, but I don’t know how many.

  3. Not documenting sources
  4. You can’t just look it up - you have to write it down, too. Otherwise you’re flirting with plagiarism.citation needed

  5. Getting facts wrong
  6. Don’t let a lack of research or note-taking get in your way. Hey, if we can put a man on Mars, you can make sure everything you’ve written is correct.

Style and organization

  1. Poor organization
  2. Without one, it’ll be hard to follow. Your writing project needs a logical, easy-to-follow flow.

  3. Selling without giving any information
  4. Buy my book and I’ll tell you what that means!

  5. Using clichès and trite expressions
  6. I’ve said it a thousand times - if your brain shuts off while you’re writing it, your readers’ brains will too.

  7. Weasel words
  8. I think that maybe you should assert yourself and say what you mean to say, possibly.
